What are the 7 principles of landscape design?

The 7 principles of landscape design are: Harmony, Unity, Focals, Rhythm, Simplicity, Scale and Flow.

Each landscaper has their own slightly different take on this, but the principles are generally the same.

  • Harmony: The entire design works together as one for a beautiful viewing experience
  • Unity: Every feature works together and complements each other
  • Focals: Features that attract the eye
  • Rhythm: Consistency in patterns, shapes and colors
  • Simplicity: Simple setup of minimal varieties that looks organized
  • Scale: The number of features and the features utilized must be appropriately scaled to match the home and other features
  • Flow: Transitions in plants, trees, etc., naturally tie everything together
